Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer in-person consultations for DVA patients?
Yes. In-person consultations are available at our Logan clinic with an FRACGP-qualified GP who has experience supporting veterans and DVA patients.
Yes. Our Logan GP can assess whether you may meet the relevant DVA criteria and, where clinically appropriate, prepare and submit a Tier 1 or Tier 2 authority application. Completing an application does not guarantee approval. All funding and authority decisions are made by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.

Processing times vary depending on the application pathway, the information provided and DVA’s current processing times.

Tier 1 applications that meet all relevant criteria may sometimes be considered by telephone while the doctor is with the patient. Tier 2 applications require written submission and review, so they may take longer.

We cannot guarantee a particular approval timeframe, and DVA may request additional clinical information before making a decision.

Eligibility may depend on:

  • Your Veteran Gold Card or Veteran White Card entitlements
  • Whether the relevant health condition is accepted by DVA
  • Your medical and treatment history
  • Previous treatments you have tried
  • The clinical assessment completed by your doctor
  • Current DVA funding and application criteria

Booking an appointment does not guarantee DVA funding, an authority approval or any particular treatment.

No. Tier 1 applications must meet specific DVA criteria.

Where the Tier 1 criteria are not met, a Tier 2 application may be required. Tier 2 applications generally require additional clinical information and written support from a relevant treating non-GP specialist.

Your doctor will determine which pathway may be appropriate after reviewing your individual circumstances.

A referral may not always be required to book an initial consultation. However, supporting information from your usual GP or specialist can assist the doctor in completing a thorough assessment.

Some Tier 2 applications require a written assessment from a relevant treating non-GP specialist. Our team can let you know which documents may be required before or after your appointment.

Please bring or provide, where available:

  • Your Veteran Card details
  • Photo identification
  • A list of your current medications
  • Relevant medical history
  • Letters or reports from your GP and specialists
  • Relevant pathology, imaging or investigation results
  • Details of treatments you have previously tried
  • Information about any previous DVA applications or approvals

Having this information available may help prevent delays if an application is required.

Yes, all new DVA patient consultations need to be conducted in person at our Logan clinic.

Changing to a new prescriber or treating doctor may require an in-person consultation and a new or updated DVA application. Previous treatment or approval does not automatically guarantee that care will continue unchanged.

Are follow-up appointments available by telehealth?

Some follow-up appointments may be available by telehealth where this is clinically appropriate and permitted under current DVA requirements.

Certain assessments must be completed in person, including some initial consultations, changes to treatment and appointments involving a change of prescriber. Our team will confirm the appropriate appointment type when you book.

We welcome enquiries from Veteran Gold Card and Veteran White Card holders.

Coverage and billing arrangements may depend on your card, accepted conditions, the service being provided and any required DVA approval. Please contact our team before booking to confirm consultation fees, billing arrangements and any potential out-of-pocket costs.

No. Aleafiate Health Clinics and its doctors cannot guarantee:

  • Eligibility for DVA funding
  • Approval of a Tier 1 or Tier 2 application
  • A particular treatment or prescription
  • A specific processing timeframe
  • Ongoing approval or funding

All recommendations are made following an individual clinical assessment. DVA makes the final decision regarding funding and authority applications.

Your doctor can explain the outcome, identify whether further information may be required and discuss clinically appropriate next steps.

Submitting additional information or a revised application does not guarantee that DVA will approve the request.

Contact Aleafiate Health Clinics and let our team know that you are seeking a DVA patient appointment at our Logan clinic.

Please have your Veteran Card details and any relevant medical documentation available when booking.
